The Story Behind VERUS
The world was shutting down. The air was thick with uncertainty, the kind that settles deep in your bones.
For me, that uncertainty hit like a ton of bricks. Two weeks. That’s how long I had my new car, a birthday gift to myself before it was gone, totaled in an accident. Before I even had the chance to make the first payment, I was out a car, out the $2,000 I’d saved, and facing a daily financial drain just to get to a job that, like everyone else's, felt less stable by the day. For just a few short days ago, on March 11, 2020, we were informed of a global pandemic, and the future of our jobs became uncertain.
Getting another car loan felt impossible. The world was unstable. My finances were strained. The system, as it was designed, had no answer for me.
That's when a friend saw the stress on my face. He had his own problems: dealerships were trying to squeeze him, offering insultingly low prices for his trade-in, blaming the "uncertainty of the world" while they were on their way to recording record profits.
So, we made a simple deal. A human deal.
He offered to sell me his car and let me pay him over time. No credit check. No predatory interest rate. Just a reasonable asking price, a little extra for his trust, and a simple rule: "Bring yo a** to work so you can pay me my money."
In that moment, everything became clear. He got a fair price for his car and a reliable second income stream, which he used to help pay for his new car. I got the transportation I desperately needed without being punished. It was a perfect circle of trust and mutual benefit.
That single act of good karma is the blueprint for this entire company.
VERUS was not born in a boardroom. It was born out of a real-world problem, solved by two friends who decided to build their own, fairer system. We are here to scale that solution for everyone who has ever felt let down, shut out, or taken advantage of by the traditional auto industry.

I’m an unapologetic tech enthusiast, a passionate car guy, and a firm believer that technology’s greatest purpose is to solve human problems.
My journey with tech didn't start with a business degree; it started on my childhood bedroom floor with a screwdriver and a game console. It grew from there—building my first PC at 15, jailbreaking my first iPhone, and building my own custom ROMs for Android phones. Those experiences taught me something fundamental: any complex system can be understood, taken apart, and rebuilt to be better.
VERUS is the culmination of my life's passions: the intricate logic of technology and the beautiful mechanics of cars. It's my answer to a system I believe can be rebuilt from the ground up to be fairer, more transparent, and more human. I’m still that kid taking things apart, only now, we're rebuilding the entire auto finance industry.

Every startup has a "first believer." For VERUS, it was the co-worker and friend who made that simple, human deal with me back in 2020. He didn't just sell me a car; he co-authored the entire VERUS philosophy without even knowing it.
His belief in a better way, and in me is why he became VERUS's very first investor. His story is woven into the DNA of our company, a constant reminder that we're not just a tech platform, but a community built on the simple idea of people helping people.
